A Conversation With Margo Price

The singer-songwriter talks all things Joni, from initial impressions to personal inspiration.

When it comes to contemporary singer-songwriters, Margo Price is far and away one of my favorites. I can’t quite recall where I first heard her music…possibly Tom Petty’s Sirius XM Radio Station? In any case, I fell in love with her style and approach to music-making right away. Bad-ass, down-to-earth, sincere, robust, human…

For those unfamiliar with her work, I highly recommend giving her a Google or Spotify search. You’ll find her collaborations with people like Willie Nelson, Bob Weir, Mike Campbell and lots more, plus her own collection of albums that she’s been making for many years now, having gotten her start in Nashville. Margo went from playing bars and waiting tables to sharing stages with rock legends — few people have worked harder in this business and deserve the credit for it, especially in an industry that still doesn’t take kindly to women refusing to stay in certain boxes.

Margo continues to live in Nashville, and she was kind enough to hop on Zoom with me to talk Joni Mitchell, who happens to be one of her own favorite artists. I’ve met Margo in person a handful of times, been to several shows, but this was a real treat to have a full hour with her geeking out about someone we both admire.

We talk a little about it on this episode, so if you’d like to hear Margo’s latest album, Strays, you can find that here. Oh, and here’s her tour schedule, too. Fans of Joni will likely find themselves fans of Margo…

I could go on for days, but I’ll leave you to this episode…thanks for listening x
